Make Up

Sorry it's been a little while. The new Maus Of Elliott website is Under Construction, but in the meantime, have a link. Avon, if you can get over the American spellings, looks like it's going to be an excellently cheap one-stop-shop if you ever have a stroke and are the same except you've stopped enjoying the physical experience of browsing a glossy department store. Their sales look pretty good at the moment too: lipglosses for under $3 and stuff! That's the best deal I've seen since I got a fiver for my birthday and accidentally bought the whole of that discount chemist in the Merrion Centre in Leeds.

Other make up factoids I've been collecting for you. The best place for gorgeous fun-ness at the moment is easily Debenhams. They've done a couple of these 25% off for 24 hours sales at the moment, but they've got ace cheapo make-up all year round, so don't hang on for the sales. (Unless you want a Fiorelli bag of course...) They're doing make-up boxes for "eyes" and "lips" and I think a kind of "general", (a gay one?) with both in. These boxes are exactly what you've been wishing Santa would bring you since you were 5, and appear to me hilariously mispriced at £5 and £10. There's a £20 "manicure set" one, but even this seems to be great value, as it's the size of a wardrobe and contains the entire props complement off that scene in Fire in the Sky.

Don't be taken in by Boots and Superdrug trying to exploit your good summer mood with doorway deals. Walk straight past their "end cap" displays of horribly packaged Maybelline £11 mascaras (on sale?), ignoring their siren song and not looking back, and you'll find own-brand ones for under £3 that look more expensive and work better.

Do you think purple eyeshadow works? Thinking of matching my £3 Traid dress with face colour for Buckingham Palace as actually, naturally, purple doesn't suit me ("it will for three quid".)

I kinda like the idea of Bourgois (?) - the tester pots seem all silky silky. But principly opposed to buying paint more expensive than dress. Suspect am a skank, but Constance Clarrol appeals. Any other less desperate suggestions?!

And: Are fake eyelashes suitable to see the Queen?

PS. Here, here on
"Don't be taken in by Boots".
Should be called
the venture in for sanitary towels and never spend less than twenty quid shop.

Enough with the Nicky Clarke!

What style dress is it? If you're doing 60s or 80s I reckon it's great. And if you're being modern, purple eyeliner with a flick would look cool.

Bourgois is nice yes, and again good for a 60s look. I have a purple and a pink in their silky eyeshadows. Damn if you lived nearer you could borrow. It's got a sheen that gives it an uber silky look in the dish, but it's actually still quite a powdery powder.

I had a liquid eyeshadow at one point (Body Shop?) which wasn't very successful but I expect they're better now.

I like the idea of matching dress and makeup in purple, but is this a day time thing? You could do a smokey dark burgundy thing if it's evening. If it's a day time event keep it light I guess.

Fake eyelashes, again, great for 60s and evenings, but probably lay off for daytime. I bet she wore them in her day anyway. I always used to forget to do mascara and comb through as if they were normal lashes - very theatrical but I think the idea is to look hyper natural or something. Brave in this weather though, I'd be afraid of the glue melting.

Incidentally, Constance Carroll's £1.68 mascara is possibly the best value thing ever, because when it's all used up you can wash the wand and use it for post-mascara comb through for like the rest of your life.

My less desperate than CC advice though - probably nothing you don't know already. Try markets, Debenhams £5 make-up boxes, and I know I mocked them, but the Boots website is actually rather good and FCUK eyeshadow (powder and cream) are on sale, 2 for £7.

not everything's a joke dude; I'm just not that clever.

I asked them to choose a college for me, because it will have no affect on my life at all, and they picked me New College.

What's L&L mean?

How's Germany?

there is no new college at cantab, do you mean New Hall or Newnham? Both only for girls.

germany stopped working, I am leaving for good tomorrow, meant to be packing right now in fact.

i and i was a silly reference to rastafarianism, about which i know practically nothing.

I.

As a wise man once said, at least you know you know nothing...

Hi Maus thought I would just leave this message on your blog. I hope you don't mind. I've been trying to find blogs where people are talking about skateboard apparel and I found this one on Make Up. Anyhoo, thought I would say hi, before I go off to find some more skateboard apparel.
